The George Public Order Policing unit and Provincial Border Control Unit in conjunction with brand holders and the local authority conducted a successful raid on various shops situated in the George taxi-Rank area on Tuesday, that are known for dealing in counterfeit goods.
This intelligence driven operation resulted in seizures of goods estimated at a total value of R718 000 and included clothing such as t-shirts, tracksuit pants, jeans, tops, caps and shoes and accessories such as sunglasses, belts, watches and pens.
Three suspects were also arrested for the possession of counterfeit Cd's and DVD's with an estimated value of R308 300.
These items were seized and handed over to the relevant authorities for disposal.
Police Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Potjie said an illegal immigrant was also arrested and will be dealt with by immigration at the Department of Home Affairs.
