Police have arrested a 24-year-old student in connection with Monday's attack on police officers where a Nyala was set alight.
Police officers were deployed to the Mthatha Campus of Walter Sisulu University on Monday where students continued with their violent protests.
National police spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo says the student was arrested on the N2 near the University on Wednesday.
He says the student will be charged with public violence, malicious damage to property and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
Brigadier Naidoo says police activated a 72-hour activation plan and more arrests are imminent.
On Tuesday, Eastern Cape Premier, Lubabalo Mabuyane, condemned the violent student protests which led to the closure of Walter Sisulu University campuses.
Four police officers were injured during the attack.
