Public Order policing members in Port Elizabeth are maintaining a strong presence in Walmer Township where residents are protesting after the Municipality began removing illegal electricity cables earlier on Thursday.
Police captain Johan Rheeder says they're keeping a close eye on a group of up to one-thousand angry township residents.
AlgoaFM News has received images of flames and smoke emanating from the entrance to Walmer Township at the intersection of Heugh road and 9th avenue.
Rheeder is urging motorists to avoid the area as a precautionary measure.
