The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says an illegal strike by employees in waste management has led to refuse collection services grinding to a halt.
Municipality spokesperson, Kupido Baron, says employees downed tools in Uitenhage, Despatch, Motherwell, Struandale, Gail Road and Harrower Road depots.
He says steps have been put in place to deal with the illegal stike activity and its hoped that services will be back to normal soon.
Baron says residents should either keep their refuse bags until the next collection date or take it to the nearest landfill site.
