Two alleged stock thieves are expected to appear in the Bedford Magistrates Court on Wednesday, following their arrest in Cookhouse.
Police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says police responded to a complaint of the slaughtering of sheep at a farm in the area.
She says when officers arrived the suspects started running.
Colonel Naidu says two sheep had already been slaughtered while two others had been tied up.
Police managed to arrest a 53-year-old suspect who was walking with blood-stained clothes down the main road.
A 35-year-old suspect was arrested at his house in the area.
Colonel Naidu says it was later established that a total of 35 sheep was stolen from a farm in Bedford.
The farmer was reunited with 31 of his sheep valued at R87 500.
Three suspects remain on the run.
