Police in Grahamstown arrested two men in their twenties after nine sheep carcasses were found stuffed in the boot of their Polo.
Police Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says the sheep were stolen in Mthatha and the value of the carcasses is about 9 thousand rand.
She says police also found empty cartridges in the car and enrolled experts from the K9 unit of Port Alfred to the scene where the sniffer dog found a firearm hidden in the gearbox compartment.
Govender says they will face an extra charge for the possession of an unlicensed firearm.
She says the men were pulled over at the Assegaai river bridge on the N2 where police were busy with an "Operation Festive Season roadblock.
