The Department of International Relations and Cooperation says its continuing to liaise with Saudi authorities over the detention of four Port Elizabeth children.
It was reported earlier that the children of well-know PE businessman, Nazir Desai, had been detained in Saudi Arabia late last month.
He has since appealed to President Jacob Zuma to assist in getting the children released.
Department spokesperson, Nelson Kgwete.
"We have instructed our embassy to talk to the Saudi authorities to give us an official explanation as to why they have been arrested. We have not been given any clarity regarding the nature of the charges that the four South African citizens are facing" he said.
