Still no production at Mercedes Benz's East London plant

Mercedes Benz management could turn to the courts on Monday to end an illegal strike by more than a thousand members of the Metal Workers Union, Numsa.

There is still no production at Mercedes Benz South Africa's East London plant this after more than 1000 Numsa members downed tools on Friday in a dispute over protective clothing. Company spokesperson Lynette Kriker said earlier that they would turn to the courts if workers do not show up for work on Monday.

She also confirmed that workers embarked on a protective strike early last week over the companies plans to outsource it's logistics department.

Numsa's shop steward Phumezo Tonisi told Dispatch online the union would meet with workers to decide whether to proceed with the strike.
