Eastern Cape police are investigating a case of arson after the Sterkstroom school went up in flames last night.
The historic building was completely destroyed.
Police spokesperson, Captain Namhla Mdeleni says authorities are at the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
She says they were alerted at about 1 am in the morning but by the time police arrived on the scene the school was already destroyed.
In October police arrested four suspects for allegedly torching the Municipal office in town.
Protesters have for long been complaining about a lack of service delivery at the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality.
