Police in Sterkstroom have arrested 15 people for public violence following protest action in Sterkstroom by employees from the Expanded Public Works Programme.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Namhla Mdleleni says protestor burnt tyres and branches in town and blockaded the R397.
Mdleleni says the situation is tense and protestors have come to the Sterkstroom Police Station demanding the release of those arrested.
Employees from the Expanded Public Works Programme are reportedly disgruntled over money not paid to them from the local municipality.
Mdleleni says the situation is tense and police are continuing to maintain a strong presence.
