A 48-year-old woman appeared in court in East London on Tuesday for allegedly defrauding the Road Accident Fund (RAF) of over half-a-million rand.
Hawks spokesperson, Colonel Katlego Mogale, says Nyameka Katshwa was arrested by their Serious Commercial Crime Investigation Team.
She says Katshwa allegedly lodged a claim in 2007 on behalf of her step-children after her husband died in an accident.
However, Mogale says the children were not under her guardianship as she had claimed and she never used the money for the children's needs, but rather for herself.
The claim was successful and a sum of R514 000 was paid to her by RAF.
The case against her was postponed to the 13th of April and Katshwa is out on warning.
