Stella Londt murders: IO concludes cross-examination

One of the defence advocates in the Stella Londt murder trial on Friday concluded his cross-examination of the investigating officer in the case.

A trial-within-a-trial got underway in the Gqeberha High Court to determine whether a statement made by one of the accused, Luxolo Kruisjan, will be admissible as evidence against him in court.

Luxolo Kruisjan claims that he was tricked into making a confession statement to the police and that his Constitutional Rights had not been properly explained to him by Constable Ridwaan Baatjies.

Baatjies was under cross-examination by Defence Advocate Nash Vandayer for two days.

During cross-examination, Baatjies remained adamant that Kruisjan's rights were explained as per the statements before the court.

He refuted Kruisjan's claims that he denied Kruisjan access to his chronic medication and a chance to contact his family to get him a lawyer.

Agnes Burns, 91, and her 87-year-old friend Rosemary Langton were killed during a robbery at the frail care centre in October 2019.

Their bodies were found bound and gagged in separate bedrooms, which had been ransacked.

Several valuable items, including Kruger Rands, had been stolen.

The trial will resume on Monday.
