The trial of the five people accused of killing two elderly Gqeberha women at the St Johns Stella Londt retirement village in 2019, has hit another snag.
The start of the trial on Monday had to be delayed because the State prosecutor, Marius Stander is ill.
The suspects, one woman and four men, are accused of conspiring to kill 87-year-old Rosemary Langton as well as Agnes Burns, who was 91.
Dragging their shackled feet from the holding cells underneath the courtroom, the five murder accused filed a straight line in the dock, facing the judge.
Alleged mastermind and former caregiver, 37-year-old Nomcebesi Slangveld, again sported multi-coloured braids and seemed cheerful.
Her four co-accused looked dreary in the dock, often looking nervously at the few loved ones who pitched.
Slangveld and her co-accused- 33-year-old Mkuseli Damaneti, 31-year-old Akhona Mneba, 33-year-old Luxolo Kruisjan and 36-year-old Nyasha Manyange, face several charges, including murder.
It is alleged that Slangveld was on duty when the victims were murdered.
The bodies of Burns and her friend Langton were found bound and gagged in separate bedrooms which had been ransacked.
A number of valuable items, including Kruger Rands, had been stolen.
They'll be back in court on Wednesday.
