Steenkamp family "distraught" at death of model daughter

"Reeva's life was cut short of her vision that she had for the future."

That's the word from her distraught uncle, Mike, who flew from Cape Town to Port Elizabeth to comfort his brother Barry and his wife June Steenkamp.

Their daughter died after being shot several times by star South African paralympian, Oscar Pistorius, at his Pretoria home early Thursday morning.

He has been taken into custody and will appear in court on Friday on a charge of murder.

The state is expected to oppose his bail application.

Speaking to Algoa FM News, Mike Steenkamp, said what Reeva had achieved (as a top model) is well known to the media.

"What has this meant for the family, its tragic because she was a very loving and very close family person, as a daughter, as a cousin and as a niece," he said.

"She had been to Cape Town many times just to stay with us while she did photo shoots. And, I think her achievement of what she's done in the past speaks for itself."

"What has actually happened now, nobody could ever visualise that this will ever take place," said Steenkamp.
