The State has called its first witness to testify in the High Court Case in Mossel Bay in which five men are accused of killing the 63-year-old Heila Killian on a farm outside Still Bay.
Killian was visiting the farm Gazania in April 2018 and was braaing with her sister Brenda and husband David Thomas when five armed suspects in orange overalls opened fire on them.
One of the bullets hit Killian and she died on the scene.
The suspects ransacked the house and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, firearms and hunting knives in a white Toyota Hilux bakkie, which belonged to David.
The suspects were subsequently arrested in Mitchells Plain.
Sakhumzi Benya, Nkoshihethu Nocuza, Msomi Nikani and Xolusani Myoyi are facing seven counts including murder, robbery and the unlawful possession of a firearm.
Killian was shot through the heart whilst her family members were tied up and beaten during an ordeal that lasted for up to two hours.
All five accused have pleaded not guilty.
