While the rest of the country is battling stage 6 load-shedding, the Eastern Cape town of Komani has had no electricity for over 20 days.
Komani's leading Industrialist and Councillor, Ken Clark, told Algoa FM News that several parts of the town were left in the dark after the main transformer feeding the entire area exploded about a month ago, forcing the municipality to provide electricity with the remaining transformers.
But, he says it's still lights-out for many as these have less capacity to meet the winter demand.
Clark says the situation is dire as some businesses have had to close shop and send workers home due to the ongoing electricity crisis.
He says this has been exacerbated by the lack of maintenance to infrastructure in recent years.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Alliance says communities and businesses have been left hanging with no explanation provided by the Enoch Mgijima Local Municipality.
DA MPL, Jane Cowley says this has affected not only businesses but has also disrupted schools.
She says they will request Eastern Cape MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Xolile Nqatha, to liaise with the national department to ensure the administration stabilises the electricity supply to the area.
