A fisherman is in a stable condition in hospital after suffering a suspected stroke while at sea off Jeffrey's Bay.
NSRI St Francis Bay station commander Marc May says their volunteers were involved in an annual fund-raising golf day when they "dropped their clubs" to respond to the emergency call yesterday afternoon.
A rescue craft was sent to the chokka fishing boat, Lazarus, reporting a 50-year-old Port Elizabeth crewman onboard suffering a suspected stroke.
NSRI medics stabilised the patient some 14-nautical miles off-shore from Jeffrey's Bay and brought him to shore
where an ambulance was waiting.
He was hospitalised in a stable condition.
