The Kouga Municipality said that 11 houses were destroyed in a fire that raged through St Francis Bay on Tuesday.
According to the latest statement, the Municipality said a few other properties were also damaged but not to the same extent.
“The actual number will be confirmed once we are confident the fire is under control”.
Firefighters remain on the ground and are being assisted by personnel from Koukamma and Nelson Mandela Bay Municipalities and volunteers.
A helicopter has been secured and will help dampen the hotspots.
Kouga Municipality also appealed for all “aircraft and drones to vacate the airspace above St Francis Bay, as they are hampering efforts to fight the fire”, while residents and visitors have been advised to stay away from the affected area.
Police will be patrolling the affected area to prevent any looting in the affected area between Harbour Road and Assissi Drive.
