SRC elections at NMMU

Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University will be in the cross-hairs of political parties on Thursday as students gear up for the SRC elections.

The SA Students Congress, an ANC affiliated body, will host the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Mdu Manana.

On Monday, the ANC's Nelson Mandela region chairperson, Nceba Faku, told Sasco members at NMMU's Missionvale campus that the ruling party was firmly behind them.

The Democratic Alliance, whose student body currently runs the SRC, will bring national spokesperson, Mmusi Maimane and DA provincial leader, Atholl Trollip, to the campus to lend the support to DA-aligned students.

Maimane says the SRC at the University has done exceptional work.

"I think it is clear that we make our politics really about the fact that it is indeed about making sure that people do their job, and it's not about race it's not about any of that it's an acknowledgement of that, so part of our visit is to say lets contest elections on the basis of competence, lets get the right people for the job, and that is the main reason for my visit" Maimane said.
