A Knysna mayoral committee member for community services and PA representative has reportedly been arrested in the Eastern Cape for an alleged assault on a female PA party member.
The incident was highlighted in a Facebook video post of over 19 minutes by PA leader Gayton Mckenzie, who identified the parties while denouncing gender-based violence.
McKenzie said the video of the incident, which occurred in the home of the woman, has shocked him.
The PA leader said the incident occurred between Knysna MMC member and Eastern Cape a female legislature member.
McKenzie said the two had been in a relationship which had ended.
He told his Facebook followers that the woman had reported to him that the councillor allegedly spat in her face during an altercation and that she spat back at him.
McKenzie said the PA will be taking “serious action” against the MMC member and that he would be “removed from his position.”
Knysna-Plett Herald reports that the woman served briefly as a PA councillor in the Bitou municipality before being appointed as a member of the party’s Eastern Cape provincial council.
This is a developing story.
