South End R140 million housing development unveiled

The Eastern Cape Department of Human Settlements together with Port Elizabeth company Anathi Property Investment have unveiled a 140 million rand housing development in South End.

The project is the culmination of a public private partnership based on a Land Availability Agreement and Service Level Agreement.

The agreement forms part of a goverment strategy to acquire land for human settlements development accomodating different income earners in the province.

A total of 374 people will be housed in the 187 mixed unit housing development known as Anathi Ridge Estate.

Speaking to the media on Friday, MEC for Human Settlements, Helen Sauls-August, says this is the first time that a private public partnership of this nature has been brought to Nelson Mandela Bay.

She says her department had been upfront that the development needs to intergrate all racial groups.

"This is one of those beautiful projects in an area with a long history of suffering where people were forcefully removed. People were forcefully moved to Bethelsdorp, Schauderville, Korsten and had to leave their land here." says Sauls-August.
