A Gqeberha man who has been charged in connection with the murder of his mother made his first appearance in the city's High Court on Monday.
Maurice Butlion, 33, faces a charge of murder and arson relating to the death of his 65-year-old mother, Sharon-Ann.
Sharon-Ann died in a suspicious fire that engulfed her flat in Park Drive in September 2022.
During his appearance on Monday, the case was postponed so that preliminary discussions could be scheduled between the state and the defence.
Butlion had earlier indicated that he intends to plead guilty.
He was found fit to stand trial, after undergoing a 30-day psychiatric evaluation at the Fort England Hospital in Makhanda.

The case was remanded to 8 October.
