An assault case investigated by Somerset East Police has now turned into a murder investigation after a victim succumbed to his injuries.
The 35-year-old Gertie Jansen was assaulted nearly two months ago and left for dead in Charles street where paramedics found him.
Jansen sustained a head injury and was taken to Livingstone Hospital in Gqeberha where he received treatment until his death his week.
Police Spokesperson Captain Bradley Rawlinson says they still do not know who assaulted and killed Jansen and therefore no arrests have been made.
He appealed to the local community to come forward with information.
