Some residents of GHT are threatening legal action if Municipality not placed under administration

Some residents of Grahamstown are threatening legal action if the MEC for Cooperative Governance in the Eastern Cape does not place the Makana Municipality under administration.

The residents have formed a group known as the Concerned Citizens Committee to Save Makana as the vehicle through which legal action will be contemplated.

In a lengthy statement on Friday, on the letterhead of local law firm, Wheeldon Rushmere and Cole Attorneys, the citizens said that the Municipality also needs urgent drought funding.

They said that if these and a myriad of other financial issues plaguing the Makana Municipality were not addressed within 14 days, legal action will follow.

A lengthy and detailed list of grievances against the Municipality has been sent to Eastern Cape MEC, Fikile Xasa as well as the national minister.
