Results will be withheld in 58 matric examination centres in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal due to group copying.
Monitoring body Umalusi's council chairperson, Prof John Volmink, says evidence of "group copying" was found in these centres.
Speaking in Pretoria on Tuesday, Volmink said following a probe, 19 centres in the Eastern Cape and 39 in KwaZulu-Natal were implicated in cheating.
Candidates who wrote their exams in these centres will not get their matric results on Monday, when it will be announced country-wide.
Umalusi CEO Mafu Rakometsi said groups of pupils provided the same answers - including the same correct and incorrect answers.
An investigation into the centres will be completed by the end of March and Rakometsi says drastic measures will be taken against pupils and supervisors involved in the cheating.
