The Unemployment Insurance Fund says small companies in the Eastern Cape routinely disregard paying UIF.
UIF spokesperson, Thabo Madikazi, said on Thursday that door-to-door visits in Mdantsane in East London were followed by formal sessions in East London, Fort Beaufort, King William's Town and Butterworth this week.
He says UIF inspectors visited 218 companies in these areas in the past 10 days and found that 146 were unregistered.
Madikazi says only 62 companies are complying with the act, while 10 refused to co-operate with officials.
He says UIF inspectors will move to Mthatha and the Port Elizabeth area from Thursday.
