A robbery suspect is under police guard in a Port Elizabeth hospital after a mob broke both his legs following the robbery of a Somali owned spaza shop.
Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Dumile Gwavu, says the shop owner was killed when a gunmen fired three shots at him during the robbery in Joe Slovo informal settlement near Kwadwesi on Wednesday night.
Gwavu says two suspects, one of whom was armed, entered the spaza shop in Phandle Street, while a third man waited outsie.
He says after the robbing the shop and shooting the owner the men fled but one was apprehended by other Somali's who were supported by members of the local community.
Gwavu says the suspect will face charges of murder and armed robbery, when he's discharged from hospital.
