Social development aims to fast track grant approvals

 The Eastern Cape Department of Social Development aims to reduce the turnaround time for grant approvals to one day.

Speaking at a stakeholder briefing in East London on Thursday, MEC Pemmy Majodina said the use of fully equipped vehicles will ensure that applications do not have to be physically delivered to Bhisho for approval, therefore reducing the waiting period.

Majodina said the department also aims to tackle the backlog in the registration of orphans to ensure that they are taken into foster homes.
