SMME contractors in Nelson Mandela Bay are protesting outside city hall and also outside another municipal building in Govan Mbeki Avenue.
They says big contracts are going mainly to white-owned businesses.
Mhleli Peter, the spokesperson for the contractors, says they are not getting the assistance that they need.
"We want work and decent work. As of now we are just given peanuts and we are saying we want to be in the mainstream economy of this Metro.
Peter said the SMME's are also demanding an economic summitt to address these issues.
He also sounded an ominous warning.
"We are demanding an economic summitt and if that what we are asking here is not going to be done we are going to burn the Metro or we'll make it ungovernable," he said.
