A 30-year-old man will appear in the Magistrates Court in Kariega on Monday on charges of impersonating a police officer.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says observant anti-gang members were busy patrolling Durban Road when they spotted the suspect wearing a police uniform in a way that was not in accordance with the SAPS dress code.
She says the SAPS prides itself on a code of ethics and conduct when it comes to its uniforms.
The suspect was wearing a police raincoat without any insignias, pants, not properly worn and safety shoes with a police cap.
Colonel Naidu says when the suspect spotted police he started to run away.
He was caught and arrested when he could not provide officers with an appointment certificate.
A toy gun was also found in his possession.
