Eastern Cape police have opened an inquest docket after skeletal remains were found on a game farm in the Kenton on Sea area.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, said police were alerted about the discovery at approximately 19:00 on Tuesday night.
"Due to poor light, the scene could not be processed," she said.
Govender said on Wednesday morning investigators and specialists combed the scene and managed to retrieve the remains which were taken by the Department of Health to conduct forensic testing.
She said a rifle and an axe was found at the scene.
Govender said investigations are continuing "and at this stage, we are unable to speculate as to how the remains ended up at the scene".
