Sizani fraud trial continues in Port Elizabeth

A Grade R practioner from a pre-school in Zwide, Port Elizabeth, is still on the stand in the trial of Nonthuthulezo Sizani, the wife of ANC chief whip, Stone Sizani.

Sizani has been charged with defrauding the Department of Basic Education of more than R1 million, related to the appointment of Grade R practitioners at schools in Nelson Mandela Bay.

Raahil Sain reports

During examination on Monday,Defence Advocate Johan Wessels, put it to Vuyokazi Nxanga that her version in court was different to the statement she made to the Special Investigating Unit-about how she withdrew the R22 000 to pay Sizani in a clothing store at a shopping mall during October 2009.

Wessels said to her that if Sizani is to testify she will deny having any dealings with the grade R practitioner and deny that she took any money from her.

He further questioned the teacher on why she never took any steps to ensure she had proof when handing over the money to Sizani who was a complete stranger to her.

The trial continues.
