Eastern Cape police have arrested sixteen suspects for the murder of two family members in Mount Frere.
Spokesperson, Colonel Sibongile Soci says the suspects, aged between 23 and 71 were arrested on Wednesday afternoon.
She says it is alleged that a 64 year old woman and a 59 year old man were assaulted and murdered by the suspects, who also burnt down their homes.
Soci says the motive for the murders is not known, but allegations of witchcraft and a possible land dispute between the victims and other community members have been made.
The suspects will appear in the Mount Frere Magistrate Court soos on charges of murder and arson.
