A Zimbabwean national has been sentenced to six life terms for the brutal killing of six of his family members in the Eastern Cape.
The 32-year-old Nowa Makula was jailed in the Elliotdale Regional Court on Monday.
He admitted to axing his girlfriend and five children to death, in a brutal attack in Sidabekweni Village near Elliotdale last November.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson, Luxulo Tyali, says they welcome the sentence.
He says it will also go a long way to restoring public faith in the justice system.
Tyali said the NPA believed that the swift manner in which it was finalised, given that it only took six months between his arrest and sentencing, should be the way that they handle their cases in future.
