The Eastern Cape Transport Department said six motorists died in separate accidents in the province on Saturday.
Department spokesperson, Makhaya Komisa, said six others were injured and were rushed to various hospitals for treatment.
Most of the accidents involved head-on collisions.
Komisa said Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
He said the MEC also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
“MEC Nqatha urges our motorists to be cautious on the roads, especially during this busy period,” he added.
