Six people have been arrested following a fatal mob justice attack in the Amalinda Forest informal settlement in Cambridge, East London.
Police spokesperson Captain Hazel Mqala says on Friday last week a woman was informed by a family member that her 39-year-old son was being assaulted and set alight.
She says when the mother arrived at the crime scene she saw several community members assaulting her son, but she was unable to stop them.
The man was severely injured and rushed to hospital where he died 24 hours later.
Captain Mqala says the mother was able to identify some of the suspects which led to the arrests.
The six suspects consisting of both men and women will appear in the local magistrate's court soon on charges of murder and possession of suspected stolen property.
