East London police are searching for the suspects involved in an armed robbery at a retail store in Vincent Park Shopping Centre on Wednesday evening.
Police spokesperson, Captain Hazel Mqala, said the drama unfolded just before 6 pm when two armed men robbed cashiers at the tills, taking an undisclosed amount of money.
“While the complainant was opening the tills, another three male suspects entered the shop and proceeded to the section where the perfumes were on display. They smashed the display cabinets and removed the items,” Mqala said.
She said, “there was an exchange of gunfire between a witness who was busy installing air conditioners at the Centre and the fleeing suspects.”
Mqala said one suspect “stumbled and dropped what he was carrying”, but added that no one was injured.
She said the suspects fled in two VW Polos.
Police are investigating cases of business robbery and attempted murder.
