Schools in Schauderville in Port Elizabeth closed their doors on Wednesday in protest against teacher shortages.
The schools are Abraham Levy Primary School and David Livingstone High School.
The closures come after the Deputy Education Minister, Enver Surty and MEC Mandla Makupula, met school principals in Nelson Mandela Bay last week where they promised to fill all substantive vacant posts at schools.
This week, Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, said that all vacant posts in the Eastern Cape will be filled by the end of the year so that all schools will have their full compliment of teachers in 2015.
Andrew Sauls of the Northern Areas School Governing Body Forum says they will look into the issues at the schools in Schauderville.
He also appealed to parents to a play a more active role in education matters.
