A 31-year-old man from George who was arrested in connection with a horror accident in which five people were killed, has been released pending further investigation.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie, said they are still awaiting the outcome of blood tests taken following the accident in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Two children, aged three and one-year and three months were killed when their stationary car was hit by an SUV on the road to Herolds Bay.
One person survived the crash. The names of the crash victims have not yet been released.
Pojie said the man will be summoned to appear in court again once the forensic results have been received.
One person was killed on the R-72 between Port Alfred and East London on Tuesday following a collision between a truck and a car.
The cause of the crash is being investigated.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters said 237 people were killed in 179 fatal accidents over the long weekend.
She said in the Eastern Cape, 19 people lost their lives in 19 crashes on the province's roads.
The Western Cape recorded 26 fatal road accidents including the one in George where five people, including two children, were killed.
