Eastern Cape authorities reported several drownings on New Year’s day.
Port Alfred police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, said one person drowned at West Beach on Sunday.
In a statement Govender said that another man was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
“At 13:30 another report of a drowning was reported at Kasouga. The deceased is a 65 year old male,” Govender said.
She said inquest dockets will be opened for investigation in both cases.
Meanwhile, Jeffreys Bay police are investigating an inquest after a 60-year-old Port Elizabeth man allegedly drowned at Kabeljous on Sunday morning.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, says the “name of victim will be released after next-of-kin is informed.”
