Southern Cape Police arrested 38 people for public violence which erupted in Sedgefield on Thursday afternoon.
Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Poje says the Public Order Police unit was dispatched and had to use rubber bullets and water canons to disperse the protesters.
The protesters caused havoc on the N2.

The protest is believed to be about service delivery issues such as housing.
The suspects are currently being processed at the Knysna SAPS and will be appearing in court soon..
They will be charged with public violence.
