Seven people have been killed following an accident on the R63 about 5km outside Fort Beaufort.
The Eastern Cape Department of Transport said the accident occurred just after 1 pm on Sunday afternoon when the driver of a Toyota Quantum mini-bus apparently lost control of the vehicle which then veered off the road.
Department spokesperson, Khuselwa Rantjie, said eight other people are critical and been transported to Victoria Hospital.
She said police are investigating the cause of the incident.
EC Transport, Safety and Liaison MEC, Weziwe Tikana, has sent a message of condolence to the families of the deceased and wished those in hospital a speedy recovery.
