Seven killed in two separate accidents in Eastern Cape

Seven people were killed in two separate accidents in the Eastern Cape on Saturday.

A spokesperson for Provincial Traffic, Unathi Binqose, says the accidents happened at the Ndisane location in Mthatha and on the N2 near East London on the road towards Butterworth.

He says in the first accident, two people were killed and 10 injured when a Toyota Quantum with six occupants collided with a Toyota bakkie with seven occupants from Mthatha.

Ten passengers, including three children, were injured while the drivers of both vehicles escaped unharmed.

On the N2, five females, including a minor were killed instantly when a Toyota minibus with 18 occupants overturned after the driver lost control.

The injured were taken to Frere Hospital for further medical assistance.

Cases of culpable homicide are under investigation.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released.
