Seven people were killed when a car and an 18-wheeler truck collided outside Uitenhage last night.
One person was seriously injured.
The truck driver suffered minor injuries.
Police captain Marianette Olivier says the accident happend on the R75 to Graaff-Reinet just before 8pm.
There were eight people in the sedan, seven died on the scene and one little girl was taken to hospital.
Olivier says the deceased were three women, two men and two boys.
Police are still trying to establish the names and ages of the deceased and a culpable homicide docket has been opened.
It is unknown at this stage what caused the accident.
