Seven killed in horror crash on N2 near Mthatha - driver flees scene

UPDATE: 12.25 pm The truck driver who fled the scene has been arrested. The foreign national is expected to appear in court next week.
Seven people have been killed and nine others injured in a horrific head-on collision on the N2 involving a truck and two minibus taxis.
A spokesperson for Provincial Traffic Makhaya Komisa says the accident happened on the N2 between Mthatha and Mtentu on Saturday morning.
He says it is alleged that two Toyota Quantums were travelling to Libode from East London and the truck was travelling towards East London when the vehicles collided in misty conditions.
Komisa says the truck driver had fled the scene and police are hot on his heels.
The truck had a KZN number plate.
The injured passengers were rushed to the Mthatha General Hospital.
A case of culpable homicide is under investigation.
Meanwhile, a 70-year-old passenger was killed when a Toyota Station Wagon and Sedan collided head-on on the R63 between Qonce and Dimbaza yesterday.
Four people were also injured and rushed to nearby hospitals.
