Seven killed in head-on collision on notorious R61


Seven people, including a three-year-old child, were killed following a head-on collision on the R61.

A spokesperson for Provincial Traffic Charles Bramwell said the accident happened on Saturday afternoon at around 5.30 pm on the road between Confimvaba and Tsomo.

A white Toyota Single cab Bakkie, travelling towards Tsomo collided head-on with a white Toyota Tazz which was coming from the opposite direction.

Bramwell said four people from the Tazz and three, suspected to be from the bakkie, all died on the scene.

The names of the four women and three men are being withheld until next of kin can be informed.

The accident will now be investigated by the police and examiners from the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC).
