Police in Port Elizabeth are urgently calling on the communities in the Northern areas to assist them in exposing criminals who are ruthless and placing innocent lives at risk.
This warning comes in the wake of the shooting of seven people in Bethelsdorp on Saturday night.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the victims aged between 9 and 26 years old were standing in front of a supermarket in Lee Samuels Drive in Ext 35 Bethelsdorp when three unknown men approached on foot and starting shooting at the group.
All the injured were taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition. None of their injuries are life threatening.
The Provincial Gang Investigation Unit is investigating cases of attempted murder.
Colonel Naidu said the Cluster Commander of Mount Road Cluster, Major General Funeka Siganga was appealing to the communities to report these criminals.
He warned that if communities protect criminals, it simply motivates them to repeat their activities and more victims will suffer.
Colonel Naidu said none of the witnesses to the shooting were prepared to make a statement, but that if police are to win the war against crime, they need to have the community on their side.
