George police have opened nine cases of malicious damage to property and public violence following Wednesday's housing protest by some residents of Thembalethu.
Police spokesperson, Captain Dumile Gwavu, said seven people were arrested on those charges.
He said nine vehicles, three of them police vehicles, were damaged during the protests.
Gwavu said two vehicles belonging to the Municipality and MSEC Security were also torched and completely destroyed.
The seven will appear in court on Friday.
Meanwhile, George mayor, Melvin Naik, met disgruntled residents yesterday and said that he will respond to the grievances in seven days.
