Eastern Cape police said the community of Quzini location in King William's Town and surrounds can finally breathe a sigh of relief.
This, after one of the most notorious serial rapists and robber, Mninawa Manzana, was sentenced to two life terms and a further 75 years in jail by the Bhisho High Court on Monday.
The court heard that Manzana and an accomplice, Sibusiso Matomana, had attacked their victims by hiding near the bus stops and robbing them at gunpoint.
Provincial police spokesperson, Captain Khayan Tonjeni, said Manzana sentenced to two life terms plus an additional 14 years for rape.
He said the 41-year-old was also jailed for “75 years for armed robbery, 20 years for attempted murder, 6 years for the possession of unlawful firearm, and 5 years for inciting rape.”
The sentences will run concurrently.
Captain Tonjeni said that DNA had positively linked Manzana to the cases.
He said Manzana’s accomplice, Sibusiso Matomana pleaded not guilty of all the charges and is awaiting a new lawyer and judgement on Friday, 31 March 2017.
