An off duty police Sergeant attached to the K9 Unit in East London was gunned down in front of his house in Mdantsane on Sunday morning.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa says they were shocked to learn of the 42-year-old's death.
She says according to information at about 5 am unknown gunmen went to his resident at NU11b in Mdantsane where he was shot multiple times in the upper body.
Police later discovered that none of his belongings were stolen and his vehicle was still on the scene.
The circumstances surrounding the murder will form part of the investigation that was immediately referred to the Hawks.
Lieutenant Colonel Mawisa says no arrests have been made and made an appeal to any person with information that can assist to bring the killers to book to come forward.
